Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

assist and monitor well control operations on at least two occasions, including:

identifying flammable gases, emissions and ignition sources

assisting in installing and maintaining well control equipment

operating at least four of the following well control equipment:

mud system

blooie diverter lines

auxiliary equipment

pressure measuring devices

gas detection equipment and devices

diverters

participating in emergency drills and exercises on site.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply documentation required for assisting with well control

interpret and implement the requirements, procedures and techniques for assisting with well control, including:

interpreting gauges and graphs

recording and reporting procedures for operations and issues

work with others to assist and monitor well control operations that meet required outcomes, including:

working in teams and organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating with others to receive and clarify work instructions

uses a range of communication strategies and techniques to communicate information to others.


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

the principles and practices of well control

key policies, procedures and established requirements for assisting and monitoring gas control operations, including those for:

work health and safety

determining risks and their controls

enacting on kick detection warnings and indications and the responses to them

sources of ignition and their dangers and controls

sources of flammable gases and emissions and their dangers and controls

pumping systems principles

the purpose, operation and interpretation of measuring and testing devices

purpose, type and conduct of emergency drills and exercises

using communication methods and protocols

drilling team roles and objectives.
